Local girls are bulldozing the stereotype that construction jobs are only for men.

Miron Construction in Neenah hosted "Build Like a Girl" on Friday, an event that shows young girls what a career in construction looks like.  The 7th through 10th grade girls received a full day of hands-on experience, including activities like a concrete pour, bricklaying, operating machinery, learning carpentry skills, and a job site tour.

According to the National Association of Women in Construction, as of 2015, women make up just 1.3 percent of the entire U.S. construction work force.

"I think it's very important that more females go into this field because there's not very many," said Becky White, who works as a carpenter. "And it's a good way to make a good living, and they're capable of doing it."
