Can M&A Foretell the Future?

When a large, well-known architectural and engineering firm makes an acquisition in a related, but somewhat different field, does that indicate an expected increase in the potential for that market? Mead & Hunt, an employee-owned A&E (architecture-engineering) firm, has acquired SAI (Sabra & Associates, Inc.), a multi-disciplinary consulting firm with a strong emphasis on the transportation sector.

This move gives both firms the opportunity to provide clients expanded consulting resources and service areas. SAI brings multi-modal transportation planning, travel demand modeling, GIS (graphical information system), traffic engineering, and highway design and construction inspection to Mead & Hunt’s transportation team, which excels at roadway and bridge design and construction inspection.

SAI brings strength in urban transit, freight logistics, signals and intelligent transportation systems planning and design, which is vital to many of Mead & Hunt’s clients. The two firms offer complementary services, making this combination beneficial for SAI and Mead & Hunt clients alike.

Mead & Hunt has nearly 900 employees in 35-plus offices located across the nation. With the SAI acquisition, they’ll be adding about 120 additional positions and five additional offices.
