We’re spotlighting someone who brings energy, empathy, and genuine commitment to every conversation he has: Adam Flanders, Recruiter in our Cranston, RI Construction group. From his unexpected start in recruiting to the passion he brings to helping candidates find the right fit, Adam’s story reflects exactly what makes ROI’s approach so personal and effective. We sat down with him to learn what drives him, what inspires him, and why he believes so deeply in the work he does.
What initially drew you to the recruiting field, and how did you get started at ROI?
I got into recruiting by pure happenstance. I was a recruiter right out of college and ended up falling in love with the work. Later on, when I was exploring new opportunities, I met with Jesse, we clicked immediately, and that made the transition to Resource Options an easy decision.
I love what I do because I get to help people find careers they can grow in, roles that truly fit their goals, and companies that value them. It’s tough for organizations to find great talent these days, and it’s tough for candidates to find the right home, being the bridge between both sides is the most rewarding part of this job.
That’s why I have so much passion for what I do.
How do you stay motivated and maintain a high level of performance in your role?
I’m a competitive person, but not in the “compare myself to everyone else” way, it’s more about holding myself to a high standard and finding ways to get better every day. I focus on staying busy, staying sharp, and creating small wins. Those little wins add up, and they turn into big wins for me and for ROI.
I try not to only stare at the end goal. Instead, I pay attention to the progress points along the way, the placements, the great conversations, the momentum. And I constantly remind myself of the opportunities to grow here. I’m driven by the next level I want to reach at ROI, and that keeps me motivated and performing at a high level.
What types of candidate success stories have meant the most to you since joining ROI?
I’ve helped a lot of different people, but the moments that stand out the most are when I meet candidates who are facing real barriers; financial strain, personal challenges, or circumstances that make finding work feel impossible. Being able to step in, advocate for them, and ultimately match them with a role that changes their situation is incredibly meaningful.
There’s nothing more rewarding than seeing someone go from feeling stuck to feeling hopeful again. Helping candidates get into a better position, professionally and personally, is what makes this work so fulfilling.
What makes ROI different than other staffing firms?
What sets ROI apart is the level of service we give to both our candidates and our clients. On the candidate side especially, we actually care about their lives, not just their résumés. The people I work with have told me they feel seen and supported, and that matters. They’re real humans with real challenges, and we take the time to understand what they need so we can help them in a real, human way.

That’s not always the standard in this industry. A lot of firms treat candidates like numbers or transactions. We don’t. We go out of our way to make sure they’re prepared, confident, and successful, whether that’s on the job site, in interviews, ornavigating a tough situation.
That commitment to treating people the right way is what makes ROI different.
What is the best career advice you have ever received?
Get comfortable being uncomfortable. That’s the best advice I’ve ever received, and it’s shaped the way I approach my career. Growth doesn’t happen in your comfort zone, so I try to intentionally do a few things each week that push me past what feels easy or familiar.
We all gravitate toward routines, but staying too comfortable won’t get me where I want to go. Whether it’s visiting candidates on-site, meeting clients face-to-face, or taking on something I’ve never done before, those moments stretch me, and that’s where real progress happens.
