ROI Spotlight on Jordan Winsor

Resource Options, Inc. is thrilled to have had an opportunity to interview Jordan Winsor; Division Manager (Portsmouth, NH). Jordan has worked in various roles at ROI, giving him a unique perspective. We chatted with him about how he got involved at ROI, what he enjoys about working there, and a few fun facts about him.

1. Why did you choose ROI?

Jordan: I spent nine years in the construction industry before joining the ROI team. I’ve worked in multiple aspects of the industry–from laboring to commercial glazing to carpentry. I was looking for a position that could combine my knowledge and passion for the industry while allowing me to gain better personal connections. Two of my college friends worked at ROI and knew I would be a good fit for the company. They referred me to the ROI team.

2. Why do you like working at ROI? jordan roi

Jordan: I like working at ROI because every day brings a different challenge, and no two days are alike! I started at ROI as a recruiter. Over the last few years, I’ve transitioned from recruiter to a Senior Job Coordinator (now our Account Manager) to Division Manager. The growth in my career at ROI has been significant. In my current role, I help in developing our recruiters as well as work directly with clients on the business development side.
One of my favorite things in my job is helping new clients. I enjoy opening an account and taking it from start to finish. We try to really understand what the client’s needs are; not just reading what the job description says. ROI’s strength is truly our service. We make sure that our clients are completely satisfied with the candidates. We really hone in on what clients’ needs are to find out what the company culture is and if this person going to be a long-term fit for them.

3. How has working at ROI helped you to grow in your career?

Jordan: Working at ROI has helped me grow tremendously in my career. I have been able to learn every aspect of running a business from how to properly interview and hire staff to managing a team, business development, making business connections with colleagues, and so much more.

4. What are 3 things that clients are looking for in candidates right now?

Jordan: Our clients mostly gauge their hiring based on the attitude of the candidate; are they reliable?  Dependable?  To move any further in the hiring process a candidate needs to check this box.  Candidates who show up ready to work each day, get an opportunity over those who may have more skill and experience but a poor attitude or reliability.  Our clients are more than willing to work with candidates who don’t have all the experience but demonstrate the willingness to learn and grow.  In the current job market, there are more jobs than there are candidates to fill them. Our clients are counting on ROI to deliver qualified candidates who are eager to develop in their careers.

5. What is the best way to get started for someone looking for a construction position?

Jordan: I would recommend connecting with a construction recruiter! Recruiters have inside knowledge about the construction industry, which companies have a healthy pipeline of projects and the skillsets they seek to deliver these projects on time.  Utilizing an ROI recruiter fast tracks you to employment and helps to mitigate delays in the hiring process.

6. What are some interesting things about you?

Jordan: My favorite vacation spots are Aruba and Martha’s Vineyard! Martha’s Vineyard is a special vacation spot. Growing up, my family used to vacation there every summer. I have great memories of being there.
Coming from a trades background, I enjoy working on projects as hobbies now. I still practice the trades and try to stay up on those. Some of my hobbies include fixing up vehicles (rebuilding engines, and small repairs to big repairs on cars), welding and fabricating, to carpentry projects around the house. Right now, I am replacing the siding on my house.

Summary

From starting as a referral candidate for a position at ROI to working with clients, Jordan has worn many hats here. He understands what a candidate feels like, as well as how recruiters work. Now on the business development side, he has the unique perspective of understanding what the clients are looking for from skillsets to cultural fits, and making great matches for the new employee and for the client.
