From law enforcement to leading one of ROI’s most dynamic construction staffing teams, Nick Lancione’s career path is anything but ordinary. As Division Manager of the MA Construction South Division, based in our Raynham, MA office, Nick blends a deep respect for the trades with a sharp eye for market trends and talent strategy. His ability to build authentic relationships, with clients, candidates, and his own team, has shaped a division known for delivering quality placements that keep projects moving. In this interview, Nick shares what inspired his move into construction staffing, how he’s navigating today’s talent challenges, and what excites him most about the future of his division. Let’s dive in!
What inspired you to specialize in construction, and what drew you to a leadership role in this division at ROI?
I first learned about Resource Options through my brother-in-law, who was already part of the team. At the time, I had spent nine years in law enforcement, but I was ready for a new challenge, one that would allow me to channel my skills into a sales career. The transition felt surprisingly natural. Growing up around job sites gave me a real familiarity with the trades, and I’d always been curious to learn more about how the industry worked from the inside. Joining Resource Options allowed me to combine that hands-on understanding with my drive to connect with people and build relationships. It wasn’t just a career change, it was the right fit at the right time.
What emerging trends in construction have influenced how you source and match talent today?
The current economic climate has made it essential to analyze market shifts closely and anticipate our clients’ evolving needs. Instead of casting a wide net, we’ve had to narrow our focus, identifying where our expertise can make the greatest impact and aligning our resources accordingly.
One clear example is the electrical trade. This vertical has been hit particularly hard by a shortage of qualified professionals, creating a real challenge for contractors and project managers. Recognizing this, we have made it a priority to become a go-to resource for that sector, dedicating time to building relationships with skilled electricians and investing in strategies to attract top talent.
By zeroing in on the areas where demand is most acute, we’re able to provide clients with the specialized, high-quality candidates they struggle to find on their own, ultimately helping them keep projects on schedule and supporting the growth of the entire sector.
Can you share a candidate placement you’re particularly proud of, one that had a meaningful impact on the client and the professional?
One placement that really stands out involves a client who relies on us as a true partner in building their internal workforce. With them, it’s an ongoing cycle, every time we place a candidate, and they bring them on board, we’re already working on finding the next one to ensure they’re ready for future needs. It’s a team effort from start to finish.
We take the time to set the tone early in the process, making sure we fully understand what they need so we can consistently deliver top-tier talent. Over time, this consistency has built a level of trust where they know we’re not just filling a role, we’re adding long-term value to their team. This partnership means a great deal to both sides and continuing to bring them exceptional candidates has been one of the most rewarding parts of my work.
What do you believe sets ROI apart when it comes to supporting clients in the construction sectors?
I believe what truly sets ROI apart in the construction sector is our unwavering commitment to building genuine, long-term relationships with our clients. Trust is the foundation of everything we
do. Our clients know we would never simply send over a candidate to “see if it works out.” Instead, we take the time to truly understand each candidate, their skills, work style, and goals before making an introduction.
This careful, thoughtful approach ensures that we’re not just filling a role; we’re making the right match for both the client and the candidate. When both parties are aligned and confident in the fit, it leads to stronger working relationships, higher retention, and long-term success. That’s the ROI difference, quality placements built on trust, not chance.
What excites you most about the future of the construction staffing division at ROI?
What excites me most about the future of the construction staffing division at ROI is the opportunity to grow strategically into new markets, starting with Cape Cod. That region has a real need for the services we provide and expanding there will allow us to make a meaningful impact for both clients and candidates.
Our vision is to remain competitive, agile, and committed to delivering the highest level of service. We challenge ourselves every single day to improve, not just in meeting staffing needs, but in anticipating them, building stronger relationships, and providing solutions that help our clients thrive.
What really drives me is the thought of watching this division grow alongside a motivated, skilled, and collaborative team that shares the same goal: to help our clients succ
eed in the best way possible. There’s something incredibly energizing about being part of a group that’s not only chasing growth but doing it with purpose and passion.
What advice would you give to someone stepping into a management role?
When stepping into a management role, resist the urge to mimic someone else’s style, authenticity is your greatest asset. People respond best when you lead in a way that reflects who you truly are. Play to your strengths, whether that’s relationship building, problem-solving, or strategic thinking, and let those qualities guide your decisions. At the same time, carve o
ut a niche where you can become the go-to expert. Mastery in one area builds trust, credibility, and a solid foundation for your team to succeed.
