ROI Spotlight: Shane MacEachern

We had the pleasure of interviewing Shane MacEachern, recently promoted to Account Manager of ROI’s Massachusetts North Construction Group in Peabody, MA. We dive into his insights on helping both clients and candidates succeed in the construction industry. Shane shares what makes ROI stand out from other staffing firms, emphasizing the importance of building strong, meaningful relationships and providing personalized support to meet the unique needs of each project and professional.

What initially drew you to the recruiting field, and how did you get started ROI?

Although I didn’t have any prior recruiting experience, my background in sales, specifically selling internet services, gave me a strong foundation. I was looking for a new challenge when I learned about the recruiting industry through my dad, who had worked in it before. His experiences piqued my interest, so I decided to connect with Jon Abplanalp at ROI’s headquarters in Needham, MA. What attracted me to recruiting was not only the sales side, which I already enjoyed, but also the opportunity to help people find rewarding work, which I find incredibly fulfilling.

How do you stay motivated and maintain a high level of performance in your role?

To stay motivated and perform at a high level, I focus on three key things. First, I’m committed to doing the best job I can for my candidates, helping them find the right opportunities that align with their career goals. Second, I prioritize providing top-notch service to our clients, making their lives easier by delivering the talent they need. Lastly, I’m fortunate to work alongside two amazing teammates, Aden and Rob, who are incredibly dedicated. We motivate each other to push forward as a team, ensuring we all succeed together.

What has been your proudest moment helping a candidate or client since joining ROI?

I had a candidate who came to us fresh out of college, with no experience in construction or ever being on a job site. Despite that, he was eager to learn and get his foot in the door. We got him placed on a project, and he quickly became one of our most reliable and hardworking team members. He loves working on site and learning about the industry with every job he takes on. It’s incredible to see how far he’s come and how well he represents what ROI stands for.

On the client side, we had a company in urgent need of an apprentice electrician. We were able to find the perfect candidate on short notice, and he turned out to be an excellent fit. The client later told us he’s a “10/10” and doing an amazing job. Moments like these are what make our work so rewarding.

What makes ROI different than other staffing firms? For candidates/clients?

I would say our service for candidates and clients is all about personal attention. For our candidates, we’re there on their first day to make sure they have everything they need, like safety gear, and we make sure they’re settled in. We even follow up with clients to ensure the candidate is off to a great start. Just this week, I called someone at 5:30 AM to make sure they found the job site, something they told me no other staffing firm had ever done for them. It doesn’t matter the time or place—our priority is making sure our candidates and clients have the best experience possible and that the right person is on the job.

What is the best career advice you have ever received?

I’ve learned through mentors at ROI that you have to A-S-K to G-E-T. In sales, and especially in staffing, it’s all about asking the right questions to find the right people for the right jobs—whether it’s for our clients or candidates.

Name 5 fun/interesting things about you!

  • I have a twin brother named Kyle.
  • Both of my parents grew up in families with five children—four girls and one boy.
  • My favorite vacation spot is Cape Cod, where I spend summers golfing with 11 of my best friends.
  • I grew up in Londonderry, NH, and used to drive by the ROI office all the time, never realizing I’d end up working here!
  • I’m a bit of a picky eater and keep it simple—steak and chicken are my go-to meals, like a 12-year-old’s dream dinner!
